Addiction Psychology & Psychotherapy
I specialise in working with Addiction or Dependency
Having trained in London I have worked with residential addiction treatment centres, out-patient programmes, addiction support agencies, and within private practice for the past 12 years. I work with clients at every stage of their addiction: denial of the dependency, contemplating change, taking action, and maintaining recovery.
I support them in recognising the costs and consequences of their addicted behaviour, and the impact on their lives, and the lives of their loved ones. Once addicts have found sobriety or abstinence, and feel more stable, together we can confront unhelpful thinking, consider high risk situations, address complacency, and explore better more life affirming decisions as they move forward.
Are you seeking to change a bad habit or conquer an addiction?
I can help you develop effective strategies to limit or eliminate your use or behaviour.
I have extensive experience of working with:
- substance addictions (alcohol, drugs)
- behavioural addictions (gambling, sex, work, exercise, shopping)
- disordered eating (over-eating, anorexia, bulimia, binge eating)
Food doesn’t have to control your life. There are better ways to deal with your stress, negative emotions and urges. I can help you break the cycle and improve your relationship with food.
Are you a Family Member of an Addict?
I regularly work with family members of using or recovering addicts, to support them in their understanding of addiction. I can guide and support family members in:
- establishing and maintaining appropriate boundaries
- disentangling from their enmeshed relationship with the addict
- re-prioritsing their lives
I am an accredited member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and FDAP (Federation of Drugs and Alcohol).
